The picture shown above is where the Trent and Neuse
Rivers converge. The Neuse River widens out at this point and eventually becomes
the widest river in the United states. New Bern is encircled by
rivers
and deep
navigable
creeks. Combine this with a close proximity to the Pamlico
Sound and the inter-coastal waterway, and the reasons are apparent why sailors and power boaters
from around the country are making New Bern their final destination. Boaters,
sailors, and fisherman from as far away as California are moving to the New Bern and
Oriental to enjoy the natural beauty and serenity of the Neuse River
and all it's tributaries.
Click below, and use the controls on the
left side of the map and you can zoom out, to see the
rivers, creeks, and other waterways in the in the vicinity of New Bern.

The Neuse River is the
widest river in the United States and is a
haven for sailing, fishing, and power boating. With 2 big rivers, miles of deep
creeks, a mild climate, and
reasonable property taxes it's no wonder that we are seeing retiree's moving to
New Bern from as far away as Florida and California.
Waterfront communities on the Neuse in
and around New Bern, N.C. include Riverside, historic downtown New Bern, Bridgeton, James City, Old Cherry Point Road, Riverbluff, Neuse Harbor, Carolina Pines, and
the Harlow area. Neuse River waterfront communities in Pamlico County include Minnesot Beach and Oriental. For more info on the

The Trent River,
while not as majestic as the Neuse, is better protected from
storms and high winds. With deep water near much of the shore
line it makes a better choice for those wanting to dock a boat in their back
yard. The calmer waters make recreational boating a favorite
pastime. Most any sunny day will bring out the water skiers,
boogie boarders, jet skiers and fishermen.
Waterfront communities in
the New Bern N.C. area on the
Trent River include Riverbend, Trent Woods, Old Towne,
Madame Moore Lane, and the Brices Creek area.

Riverbend
Riverbend is an incorporated
Town located about 10 minutes from midtown New Bern.
In Riverbend you will find around 70 water front homes on
the Trent River and perhaps 100 waterfront homes on the
canal. Most of the homes on the
river are on large lots and many have deep water near the
shores edge allowing you to keep large boats in your back
yard. Home prices on the Trent
River start around $475,000.00
The Riverbend
Canal was formed by cutting a canel from the Trent River into the town of Riverbend.
The canal is about 1 mile long and 5 to 6 feet deep. Near
the end of the canal is the recently built Riverbend Marina.
Homes
on the Riverbend Canal are relatively inexpensive compared
to other waterfront properties in the area. This area can be
a good choice for those that want to stay in the
$275,000-$400,000 price range and live on relatively deep,
protected water.
Whether you are looking for a
waterfront home or just a great place to call home,
Riverbend offers water access, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming,
biking, and walking.

Fairfield Harbour

Fairfield Harbour is located about 20 minutes
from New Bern by land or by boat via the Neuse River. This
development was started by my Uncle Joe Gualtney who had a
bold vision of creating a new waterfront and golfing community
in the New Bern area. The marina shown above is one of four
within the community.
The water frontage was created by
digging a series of canals starting at Northwest Creek. The
main canal begins about 400 yards from the mouth of Northwest
Creek, a picturesque deep creek that drains
into the Neuse River. The Neuse River is 2-3 miles wide at this point
making it especially attractive to sailors as you are in
big water as soon as you leave the Harbour.
It is
about a 3 hour boat ride from Fairfield Harbour to Ocrakoke
Island, which is always rated one of the top two beaches on the East Coast. There are
several hundred waterfront homes in Fairfield Harbour but
only a few waterfront lots still for sale. Waterfront homes
start around $400,000.00.
Fairfield Harbour offers boating,
sailing, fishing, golf, biking, walking, and tennis at very
affordable prices. Home prices on interior lots start around
$200,000.00.

Neuse Harbour

Neuse Harbour, shown above, is located about 12 miles
from New Bern, 8 miles from Havelock, and 22 miles
from the Crystal Coast Beaches of Eastern North Carolina.
This makes for a convenient location for those that work at
Cherry Point Marine Air Station. For those that enjoy salt
water fishing but do not want to live in a coastal county it
is a relatively short drive from Neuse Harbour to the ocean.
Because the water is shallow on this side of
the river you will not see any large boats docked here. The breath taking views of the Neuse River, which
is around 3 miles wide at this point, are the attraction
Home prices range from $230,000 for interior
homes to over a
million for the larger waterfront homes so there is quite a
wide selection to choose from. Neuse Harbour is located
outside the city limits so only county taxes are applicable.

Stately Pines

Located on the Neuse River just past Neuse
Harbour Stately Pines offers affordable homes on interior
lots as well as reasonably priced waterfront homes.
The Neuse River is several miles wide at this
point with wonderful views, however you will not see any
large boats docked in this area as the river is shallow and
would require you to go out several hundred yards from
the shore to dock a boat with 3 feet of draft.
Interior home prices range
start around $200,000.00 and waterfront starting
around $550,000.00. |

Carolina Pines

The picture above
shows the mighty Neuse River. This picture was
shot in the back yard of a house we recently sold
in Carolina Pines. The river is some 3 miles wide at
this point. The whitecaps you
see are the result of a 20 mph wind coming out of
the north which makes for an exciting day on the
water for sailors.
Carolina Pines is located about 5
miles from Havelock and around 15 miles from New
Bern. Carolina Pines has a 18 hole golf course, a
nice tract
and it is a real bargain to play there. For more
information on the golf membership
Carolina Pines offers affordable
homes and convenience for those looking to be near
the base or within a 20 minute to the beaches or New
Bern. Home prices in Carolina Pines range from
$150,000 for an interior home to $700,000 for a newer
home on the water. |

Tucker Creek
Tucker Creek is located just a few miles
from the back gate of Cherry Point Marine Air Station
making it a popular area for military families and
civilian employees. Tucker Creek is accessible by a
community boat launch which enables you launch a small
power boat and make your way to the Neuse River. There
are a limited amount of homes in Tucker Creek that have
enough water depth to allow for a dock to accommodate a
small motor boat.
Tucker Creek Middle School is Craven
Counties newest middle school and is located within the
subdivision which makes it convenient for those with
middle school aged children.
Home prices range from $135,000.00 for a
1400 sq.ft. town home to $300,000.00 for a single family
home on the creek. |
|
Brices Creek
Brice's
Creek lies on the south side of the Trent River. This area is bordered by the 150,000 acre Croatan National
Forest,
info on Croatan.
Brices Creek is a picturesque deep creek that
originates in the Croatan Forrest and flows through
Carolina Colors and Taberna before making its way into
the Trent River. This area is a popular choice for
waterfront because of its close proximity to downtown
New Bern, good school system, deep protected water, and
easy access to Highway 70 E.
This area does not work as well for
sailors due to a bridge that limits boats to a clearance of around
15'. However motor yachts without fly bridges can
take advantage of the deep and protected waters.
Home prices range from $400,000-$600,000
and usually do not stay on the market long. |
|
Madame Moore Lane

Madame Moore Lane is located on the Trent River across the river
from downtown New Bern. Many love the convenience of living here as
you can boat to downtown or take a short 5 minute car ride. The
water is relatively deep in this part of the river and allow larger boats to be parked behind ones house.
Home prices start around $575,000 for an older home on Madame Moore
Lane. Its hard to
beat the convenience of Madame Moore Lane. |
|
Bridgepointe
Located within a five minute boat ride or a five minute
car ride from historic downtown New Bern, Bridgepointe
offers convenience, incredible views, and splendid new
and nearly new custom homes.

Located on the Trent River Bridgepointe has
approximately 25 home sites of which around 8 are
waterfront. The deep and somewhat protected waters of
the Trent River make boating, skiing, and tubing a great
way to spend a lazy summer day.
Interior homes in this much desired area begin around
$500,000.00. Waterfront homes begin around $990,000.00.
Re-sales rarely are available so you need to be ready to
buy when one comes on the market.

|
Olde Towne
Just minutes from historic downtown New Bern,
Old Towne is a much desired area to live. Much of the
waterfront was created with the digging out of several large inland lakes,
which were later connected to the Trent River via a canal that is deep
enough and wide enough to accommodate most any size boat.
In addition to the single story homes on the canal, Old Towne also offers
condo's, pictured below, with fantastic views on the Trent River and
access to a boat slip.
 Because of the convenience to
schools, church's, and shopping, Olde Towne is popular to both retirees
and working families. Home prices begin around $350,000 for
interior homes and waterfront will begin around $599,000.
