Taberna
Where the living is Easy
Taberna is one of the
newest retirement communities in the New Bern area. Located about 10
minutes from historic downtown New Bern and 25 minutes from the beaches
of the Crystal Coast, Taberna is by anyone's standard
a quality subdivision. Approximately 800 homes weave in, on, and around one of
North Carolina's finest golf courses.
Home prices in Taberna range from $200,000-$600,000. The average
priced home in Taberna sells
for approximately $280,000.
For this you get around 2500 heated square feet and a 2 or
2.5 car garage. Although the subdivision is mostly built out there are a few
lots available to build on in Taberna.
Golf course membership is optional and those that choose to join
 the country club have access
to the golf course, swimming pool, Har-true tennis courts, and really
nice driving range. The

Other community amenities include wide sidewalks that
make walking or biking safe and enjoyable,
a fishing pier on the beautiful Brices Creek, and a kayak launch.

Greenbrier
Greenbrier is another wonderful retirement community located near the shopping district of New
Bern and close to all the medical practices in the area. This quality, highly sought after subdivision,
has approximately
750 homes was started in 1986 and by 1996 was essentially built out.
Nestled among
what used to be a Weyerhaeuser tree farm many consider this
development to be the most convenient location among all the
planned communities in New Bern. Because Greenbrier is located within
the city limits of New Bern you will pay county and city property taxes.

 A championship 18 hole golf course is the hub of the community. Designed by Rees Jones, this
course is a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The country club
also has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a first class practice

Although the
subdivision does not have sidewalks the roads are wide and allow
plenty of space for pedestrians to walk or bike. Within biking
distance from Greenbrier is Craven Community College which
offers adult classes ranging from beginning computer skills to
advanced college level courses.
 This community is comprised of around 65% retirees and 35% working
professional family's.
Single family home prices range
from $210,000.00 to $500,000.00. Patio homes are priced starting around
$140,000.

Fairfield Harbour
Located about 20 minutes from historic downtown New Bern,
Fairfield is a paradise for
boaters, sailors, tennis players, and golfers. Fairfield Harbour is
New Bern's only gated community with a security guard on duty 24/7.
The Neuse River is about 3 miles wide at Fairfield Harbour

Fairfield Harbour is located outside of the city of New Bern, and
residents pay only County property taxes. However a $475
per year POA fee is assessed to each lot.
Amenities located within
the subdivision are an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, miles of
pedestrian roads, miles of water frontage, 4 marinas, workout
facility with an indoor swimming pool and 3 outdoor swimming pools.
The
people who live in Fairfield Harbour make this a very special place to
call home. With around 85% retiree's, this active community gives back to Craven County in
the way of volunteerism. Fairfield Harbour has a plethora of special
interest clubs and groups so you are sure to meet many new friends that have the
same interest as yourself.
Existing interior home prices begin around $140,000. Expect to pay around $250,000-$300,000 for
a new or newer home. Waterfront homes start around $250,000. There are plenty of
building lots available for those that prefer to build a custom
home.

Riverbend
Located about 10 minutes from the center of New Bern, Riverbend was the areas first golf
and waterfront planned community. The development was incorporated as
the City of Riverbend in
the early 1980's and has a population of around 3000.
Riverbend is a mature
community with very few lots left to build on. Most of the homes were built in the 1970's, 80's,
and early 90's.
Home prices range from $110,000 for a town home to $200,000 for a golf
course home. Water front homes begin around $350,000.
The Riverbend Golf Course had a complete makeover a few years ago and is now one of the areas top
courses. Initiation fees are a reasonable $1500 and monthly dues are $135. Not bad
for a great course with a lighted driving range, tennis courts, and
large swimming
pool, and a full service restaurant with great food. For more

Riverbend also has a well protected marina capable of handling boats up to 45 feet.
 For tennis lovers there
is the largest tennis club in the area. Harbor Town Racket Club has 6
courts and the best USTA tennis club in Eastern North Carolina.

Riverbend is comprised
of about 60% retirees and 40% working couples. As with Fairfield Harbour
there are many different clubs and organizations within the community to
choose from. New friends are always easy to meet.
Golf, Tennis, boating,

Carolina Colours
New Bern's newest and
largest upscale community will be catered towards a combination of retirees and
professional working couples. When Colours is completed it will have over 2000
homes.
 An 18 hole golf course designed by renown golf architect Bill Love
should be one of Eastern North Carolina's finest when completed. The
first 9 is expected to open in the summer of 2010.
Other amenities will include advanced fiber optic telecommunications
wired in each home,
sidewalks, tennis courts, fitness center, and community parks.
Carolina Colours is
conveniently located off of Highway 70 East, about 8 miles from historic
downtown New Bern and 22 miles from the beaches of the Crystal Coast.
 A retail Towne Center
complete with banks, grocery stores, and other high end retail stores
will be built within the community. You will be able to bike
to the bank to get money and then to the grocery store. How
green is that?
Single family
homes start around $275,000 and condos are priced around
$220,000. Lots are available for those that prefer to build a

Carolina Pines
Carolina Pines is located about 15 miles from downtown
New Bern and about 3 miles Havelock North Carolina and Cherry Point Marine
Air Base, and 20
 or so minutes from Atlantic Beach. This makes it
attractive to those folks that would like to be a little closer to the
beaches or in the case of military retirees closer to the base.
Carolina Pines was developed in the
late 1960's and even today there are sections being developed so new
homes are available in addition to a wide range of existing homes .
 For golfers
there is an 18 hole course located within the community. It's usually no problem to get a tee time
so what better way to wind down the day than to sneak out in the
afternoon and play a few holes.

the beautiful Neuse River which is some 3 miles wide at this point. A newer home around 2200 heated square will run around
$240,000.

breathtaking.
