Taberna
Taberna is one of the
newest retirement communities in the New Bern area. Located about 10
minutes from historic downtown New Bern Taberna is by anyone's standard
a quality subdivision. Around 800 homes weave in, on, and around one of
North Carolina's finest golf courses. Community amenities include wide sidewalks,
a kayak launch, swimming pool, driving range, and tennis courts. The
community's is comprised of pproximately 60% retirees and 40% working families. Homes in this
much desired subdivision range from $220,000.00-$700,000.00.

Greenbriar
Greenbriar is another
wonderful retirement community located near the shopping district of New
Bern. This quality, highly sought after subdivision was built in
1986 and was by 1996 was essentially completed. Nestled among what used to be a
Weyerhaeuser tree
farm many consider this development to be the most convenient location of all the
planned communities in New Bern. Because Greenbriar is located within
the city limits of New Bern you will pay county and city property taxes.

A championship 18 hole golf course is
the hub of the community. Designed by Rees Jones, this course is a
challenge to golfers of all skill levels. Other amenities include a
swimming pool, tennis courts, miles of walking and biking roads, excellent driving range,
and right around the corner from Craven Community College. This
community is comprised of around 65% retirees and 35% working family's.
Home prices range
from $220,000.00 to $475,000.00.
Fairfield
Harbour
Located about 20 minutes
from historic downtown New Bern, Fairfield Harbour is a
paradise for boaters, sailors, tennis players, and golfers. This is also
New Bern's only gated community with a security guard on duty 24/7.
Located outside of the city of New Bern town limits, Fairfield Harbour
residents pay only county property taxes. There is however a $400
per year POA fee that is used to keep up the roads and other capital
improvements.
Amenities located within
the subdivision are an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, miles of
walking and biking roads, miles of water frontage, 3 marinas, workout
facility with an indoor swimming pool, 3 outdoor swimming pools.
The
people who live in Fairfield Harbour make this a very special place to
call home. With around 85%
retiree's, this active community gives an awful lot back to Craven County in
the way of volunteerism. Fairfield Harbour has a plethora of special
interest clubs and groups so you are sure to meet many new friends that have the
same interest as yourself.
Existing interior home
prices begin around $170,000. Expect to pay around $250,000-$300,000 for
a new home. Waterfront homes start around $400,000.

Riverbend
Located about 10 minutes
from the center of New Bern, Riverbend was the areas first golf
and waterfront planned community. The development was incorporated as
the City of Riverbend in
the early 1980's and has a tax rate of .25 per hundred of valuation. Riverbend is a small town with a population of around 3000. A mature
community with very few lots left to build on, you will find homes that
were mostly built in the 1970's, 80's, and some in the 90's.
Home prices range from $110,000 for a town home to $200,000 for a golf
course home. Water front homes begin around $370,000.
The Riverbend golf course
had a complete makeover a few years ago and is now one of the areas top
courses. Initiation fees are $1500 and monthly dues are $135. Not bad
for a great course with a lighted driving range, tennis courts, and
large swimming
pool, and a full service restaurant with great food. Also within the
community is a new marina with a wonderful seafood restaurant.
Riverbend is comprised
of about 60% retirees and 40% working couples. As with Fairfield Harbour
there are many different clubs and organizations within the community to
choose from. New friends are always easy to meet.

Carolina Colours
New Bern's newest and
largest upscale community will be a combination of retirees and
professional couples. When Colours is completed it will have over 2000
homes. An 18 hole golf course designed by renown golf architect Bill Love
should be one of Eastern North Carolina's finest when completed.
Other amenities will include advanced fiber optic telecommunications,
sidewalks, tennis, fitness center, parks, and a retail Towne Center
complete with banks, grocery stores, and other high end retail stores.
Single family
homes start around $400,000 and condos are priced around
$250,000.
Carolina Pines
Carolina Pines is located about 15 miles from downtown
New Bern, about 3 miles Havelock North Carolina and Cherry Point Marine
Air Base, and 20 or so minutes from Atlantic Beach. This makes it
attractive to those folks that would like to be a little closer to the
beaches or in the case of military retirees closer to the base.
Carolina Pines was developed in the
late 1960's and even today there are new sections being developed so new
homes are available. The view of the Neuse River is arguably the finest
in Craven County. For golfers
there is an 18 hole course located within the community that is short
but nevertheless a challenge. Its usually no problem to get a tee time
so what better way to wind down the day than to sneak out in the
afternoon and play a few holes.
Home prices range from the low $200,000's to over $700,000 for a home on
the Neuse River. A newer home around 2200 heated square will run around
$275,000. |
